Beautiful Homes from Classic Film

We’re going through a massive heatwave on the east coast, with no signs of it letting up. But all is not lost! For those of you who love interior design and all things “home” as much as we do, we have a solution for hanging out inside in your air-conditioned home. How about watching a great movie (or 2 or 3) where the interior design played an outsize role? Here are a few of our favorites….

Remember this incredible kitchen from “It’s Complicated”? Nancy Meyers has a cult-like following for fans who love her style. Many credit her and her films with the “coastal grandmother’ vibe that gained popularity a few years ago…and is still going strong.

This movie, starring Andie McDowell and French actor, Gerard Depardieu, featured a beautiful conservatory in her Manhattan apartment. The film, Green Card, was released in 1990 and has a story as old as time.

“Julie and Julia”, directed by Nora Ephron and staring Amy Adams and Meryl Streep was based on a true story. Julie Powell made it her goal to master all 524 recipes from Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”. The movie was delightful, and here was the set for Julia’s Paris kitchen.

For anyone who embraces the newish concept of “maximalism” which is enjoying a moment in design, you’ll love the brownstone that Meg Ryan occupies in the film “You’ve Got Mail”. Also starring Tom Hanks, this movie was filmed in 1998 and follows a story line of business rivals who unknowingly fall in love over the internet.

There are so many more, these are just a start. But we hope it provides some inspiration and a much needed dopamine lift as we wait out the heat wave that is keeping us all inside!
